Free tax preparation is available听for low-income, elderly and non-English speaking individuals and families thanks to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) being offered by the听e SUNY Fredonia Accounting Society, in conjunction with Chautauqua County Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition.
Developed by the Internal Revenue Service, VITA is conducted locally by 18听accounting and business听majors from SUNY Fredonia who are volunteering听their time and knowledge each Saturday during 鈥渢ax season鈥 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Dunkirk Free Library until听April 11. The library is听located at 536 Central Avenue.
Using personal computers provided by the IRS and internet-access provided by the Dunkirk Free Library, the students are preparing and filing听federal and state tax returns electronically for each client.
The SUNY Fredonia Accounting Society VITA program is part of a county-wide coalition coordinated by The United Way of Northern Chautauqua and the Chautauqua County Department of Social Services. For further information, contact Mary Meyer or Thomas Demmer by email.
