SUNY Fredonia will present a free public lecture by Peppermint, beloved Queer icon, actress, singer and artist ambassador.

The event is slated for Thursday, Oct. 17, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., in Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall. A reception will follow the lecture. 

Tickets are free but required from the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center. 

Generous support for the program is provided by the Collingwood Distinguished Lecture for Diversity endowment held at the Fredonia College Foundation. 

Peppermint is a beloved icon in Queer nightlife and a multi-talented actress and singer. Her electrifying performances regularly sell out venues around the world. Peppermint has released six albums, including 鈥淗ardcore Glamour,鈥 鈥淪ervin鈥 It Up,鈥 and 鈥淎 Girl Like Me: Letters To My Lovers,鈥 all available on all streaming platforms. Recent projects have included guest-starring in popular TV shows and movies such as the 2023 Netflix series 鈥淪urvival of the Thickest鈥 with comedian Michelle Buteau, and Hulu鈥檚 hit rom-com movie 鈥淔ire Island鈥 alongside Saturday Night Live's Bowen Yang, Joel Kim Booster, and Margaret Cho. Peppermint has also co-starred in OUTtv鈥檚 鈥淐all Me Mother鈥 drag competition series, and guest-starred in seasons one and two of Amazon鈥檚 鈥淗arlem.鈥 In addition, she has hosted and presented at the 2020 and 2022 GLAAD Media Awards, and hosted/moderated Black Queer Town Hall with co-creator Bob The Drag Queen.

Peppermint is known for her fierce advocacy for trans and non-binary people. She is the American Civil Liberties Union鈥檚 (ACLU) first-ever Artist Ambassador for Trans Justice, and has raised six-figure sums for prominent LGBT rights groups, partnered with MAC Cosmetics鈥 鈥淢.A.C. AIDS Fund鈥 and is involved in the HIV Vaccine trials network. She also partnered with RuPaul's Drag Race winner Sasha Velour for a college speaking tour that focused on these issues. Peppermint is currently nominated for a 2022 GLAAD Media Award in the Outstanding Online Journalism category for her contribution to the Discovery+ 鈥淟egendary鈥 series, and was awarded 鈥淏est Songwriter鈥 by World of Wonder鈥檚 Wowie Awards in 2020. She has also received numerous other honors, including a GLAAD Media Award nomination alongside Lady Gaga and Kehlani for Outstanding Music Artist in 2021, Conde Nast鈥檚 鈥淨ueeroes鈥 award in 2018, and being named one of Out magazine鈥檚 鈥淥UT100鈥 portfolio of the most influential LGBTQ people of the year.
