Rachel Echevarria, a senior from Fredonia, NY, majoring in Environmental Sciences and Geology, won second place (and a cash prize) in the undergraduate division at the virtual conference, the 2024 Sigma Xi Student Research Showcase, presented by the scientific research honor society.

Her virtual poster, 鈥淎n Ontogenetic Study of Clam Shrimp Using SEM Imagery,鈥 detailed the Fredonia High School graduate鈥檚 study of the larval growth of a local clam shrimp 鈥 recently discovered in Western New York for the first time in an area south of Fredonia.

Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences Associate Professor Thomas Hegna is Ms. Echevarria鈥檚 mentor. She has minors in Psychology and Biology.
