Classic songs of the season 鈥 along with several new ones 鈥 filled King Concert Hall at the annual Holiday Choral Concert by three School of Music student ensembles at SUNY Fredonia on Saturday, Dec. 4.

The concert was also recorded and will be produced as a holiday special for PBS stations across New York state, and will be broadcast on WNED-TV in Buffalo on Monday, Dec. 20, at 10 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 24, 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 25, 1:30 p.m.

鈥淲e hope that this annual holiday offering helps to usher in the holiday season for everyone!鈥 - Dr. Vernon Huff

A vocal-jazz take on 鈥淪ilent Night鈥 by Laura Jekabsone, the Latin 鈥淯bi Caritas," accompanied by Associate Professor of Horn Marc Guy; 鈥淕audate Omnes,鈥 by 17th century Dutch composer Jan Sweelinck, and perennial favorites 鈥淒eck the Halls鈥 and 鈥淔um, Fum, Fum鈥 were performed, along with recent compositions by Bob Chilcott and Ruth Gray.

The ensembles included the Chamber Choir, directed by Associate Professor Vernon Huff; College Choir, directed by Assistant Professor Adam Luebke, and Camerata, directed by Lecturer Brent Weber.

At the conclusion of the concert, the combined choirs joined forces to present Pavel Chesnokov's "Salvation is Created" (from the Russian Orthodox liturgy) and Stacey V. Gibbs' "Ain't That-a Rockin," a seasonal spiritual.

鈥淓very year, Camerata, Chamber Choir, and College Choir come together to present a concert of sacred and secular holiday favorites for the Fredonia community,鈥 Dr. Huff said. 鈥淲e hope that this annual holiday offering helps to usher in the holiday season for everyone!鈥
