Prolific may best describe the research Department of History Professor Eileen Lyon has compiled on the Holocaust and recently shared.
Dr. Lyon presented her work at various international conferences, received a prestigious award and participated in national and local seminars and exhibits. Teaching interests of Lyon include British and European history, history of the Holocaust and religious and political history.
She regularly teaches a history of the Holocaust class and brings her scholarly work into the classroom. In addition, Lyon has mentored a number of students who worked with archival materials on the Holocaust.
Lyon presented two papers in June, including:
鈥 鈥淲omen as 鈥榲icars鈥 and 鈥榩relates鈥 in Nazi Prisons and Concentration Camps,鈥 presented at CIHEC (Commission Internationale d鈥橦istoire et d鈥橢tudes du Christianisme/International Commission for History and Studies of Christianity), University of Latvia; in Riga, Latvia, on June 3.
鈥 鈥淧olish Catholic Women in Pawiak Prison鈥 presented at PIASA (Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America) World Congress, Collegium Civitas; in Warsaw, Poland, on June 9.
In addition, Lyon received the 鈥淚f not for the ten鈥︹ (Museum Director鈥檚 Award) for special contributions to promoting the memory of Auschwitz [relates to work restoring the identities of those deported to and imprisoned in KL Auschwitz], at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum; O艣wi臋cim, Poland, on July 2.
Lyon was a panelist at the 鈥淓ducators鈥 and Students鈥 Perspectives on Antisemitism Post October 7th鈥 at 11th International Conference for Educators at Yad Vashem: Holocaust Education in a Global Context,鈥 Yad Vashem 鈥 The International Institute for Holocaust Education; in Jerusalem, Israel, on July 4, and was also a selected workshop participant at 鈥淔inding Religion in the USHMM Collections: New Methods for Archival Research,鈥 United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; in Washington, D.C., from July 29 to Aug. 2.
Lyon curated the Exhibition for World War II Polish Remembrance Day: 鈥楽erving God not only in happiness and joy but also in every suffering鈥: Polish Priests and Religious During World War II;鈥 in Buffalo, NY, on Aug. 11, and presented the paper, 鈥淣azi Agronomy and Polish Priests at Dachau,鈥 at EASR [European Association for the Study of Religion], University of Gothenburg; in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Aug. 21.
