School of Music Senior Lecturer Lynne McMurtry, contralto, and Alison d鈥橝mato, guest pianist and assistant professor of Vocal Coaching at the Eastman School of Music, will present a recital program that celebrates the rich history of art song while bringing it firmly into the contemporary, on Saturday, Oct. 2, 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall.

鈥淲e begin with some of the cornerstone composers of lieder, such as Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms, as well as their vibrant female contemporaries, such as Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel,鈥 Ms. McMurtry said.

The second half of the concert will celebrate diverse voices of the 20th and 21st centuries. Women poets, Black American female composers, indigenous and LGTBQ poets and Asian and trans composers will be featured in a rich musical tapestry that is described as wonderfully accented with elements of jazz and contemporary harmony...all topped off with a sly reworking of one of Haydn鈥檚 most famous symphonies into an invective about pronouns.

A multiplicity of musical identities will come together for a singularly enjoyable performance that is free and open to the public.
