Mariana O鈥橫eara, a Resident Assistant in Kasling Hall, has been named RA of the Month for August/September by Residence Life.

Ms. O鈥橫eara, a senior from Bogota, Columbia, is working towards her degree in Music Industry. She is a tour guide, a member of Sigma Gamma Phi sorority and is vice president of the Resident Assistant Advisory Board.

When asked about her favorite thing(s) about Fredonia, O鈥橫eara replied: 鈥淲hat I love most about Fredonia is how supportive and welcoming this community is! I moved here in 2021 for college all the way from Colombia, and this campus has truly become my home.

鈥淎s an RA, I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of people and help this community grow. Being able to connect with residents from diverse backgrounds has enriched my experience and allowed me to share my own culture.

鈥淚 find great joy in creating an environment where everyone feels included and appreciated. It鈥檚 fulfilling to see my residents grow, knowing that I鈥檝e played an important part in their college [experience]. Building this community, where everyone feels safe and supported, has made my time at Fredonia incredibly meaningful.鈥

O鈥橫eara was nominated by Sabrina Sosa, who is Residence Director of Kasling Hall. Ms. Sosa鈥檚 praise of O鈥橫eara included pointing out how she is always looking to improve the building for the students and always goes above and beyond to make sure that the residents are always taken care of.

Future plans of O鈥橫eara include studying for her master鈥檚 degree in public relations and marketing with the goal to make the music industry a more positive place and to help guide people.
