The Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center is collaborating with one of the nation鈥檚 most acclaimed quintets to present a special live streamed performance in October.

鈥淏oston Brass - Arts Across America: Community, Together鈥 will take place on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m., from the historic Ramsdell Theatre in Manistee, Mich.

The real-time/live-streamed performance and educational initiative was created by Boston Brass in recognition that presenting organizations and music programs across the country are also experiencing the COVID-related difficulties of keeping their doors open, maintaining the interest of their patrons and helping school music programs in their communities to keep students engaged.

With over 35 years of international touring behind them, Boston Brass strives to offer am artistically entertaining 鈥渟omething-for-everyone鈥 program featuring familiar classical works to popular jazz standards, all delivered with the ensemble鈥檚 signature audience interaction and charming rapport.

The quintet performed at Rockefeller Arts Center in October 2011 as a part of the DFT Communications Pops Series.

The Oct. 18 program will feature numbers ranging from Bach鈥檚 鈥淲achet Auf鈥 to Duke Ellington鈥檚 鈥淐aravan鈥 to Stanton Moore鈥檚 鈥淏lues for Ben.鈥

鈥淲e hope our donors and patrons will enjoy this performance by Boston Brass,鈥 said Rockefeller Director Jefferson Westwood. 鈥淪ince we are not yet able to host in-person events, this is one of the ways in which we are trying to fill the performing arts void in our community.鈥

The link to the performance will be shared via Rockefeller Arts Center鈥檚 page and through the Rockefeller email club. It will be available for viewing for two weeks following the Oct. 18 performance. The event is part of the 2020-21 Lake Shore Savings Season.

Boston Brass is a Yamaha Performing Artist Group represented exclusively by Middleton Arts Management.

The event is sponsored by West Shore Community College Performing Arts Series and produced and hosted by the Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts at the historic Ramsdell Theatre, 101 Maple St., in Manistee. The live stream will be directed by Shauna Barravecchio at Immersive Music Project, Jamaica Plain, Mass.,with a camera crew from Lake FX Media.

There is also an educational component to the collaboration. There will be a 30-minute educational video workshop titled 鈥淩ewired鈥 in which Boston Brass discusses and demonstrates how getting back to the basics when learning new music and rehearsing both individually and in an ensemble setting can be enormously beneficial to student musicians. Recorded just prior to the Oct. 18 performance, it will be made available for area schools at a later date.
