Jamie Leigh Sampson, an instructor in composition in the SUNY Fredonia School of Music, will present a recital of her works in 鈥淯ncommon Ground, Faculty Recital: Jamie Leigh Sampson, Composition" at Rosch Recital Hall on Tuesday, April 5, at 8 p.m.

Guest artists Dr. Amanda DeBoer Bartlett and alumna Mariami Bekauri will perform alongside School of Music faculty and student performers.

The program includes three world premieres and many performances of works that have yet to be presented to a live audience. The event, which is free and open to the public, will also be .

Individual selections include: 鈥淭he Body Electric,鈥 for solo soprano; 鈥淩iddle Me,鈥 for laptop orchestra; 鈥淏eing of the Sea,鈥 for solo tenor; 鈥淎merican Mother,鈥 for mezzo-soprano and piano with text by Pamela Hart; 鈥淢ended,鈥 for clarinet and bassoon; 鈥淚n the Beginning there was鈥 ,鈥 for fixed media; 鈥淏roken,鈥 for mezzo-soprano and piano with text by Pamela Hart, 鈥淟OSS,鈥 for treble choir & string quartet; 鈥淎drift|Entwined,鈥 for low open instrumentation; 鈥淭housand Times a Thousand,鈥 for soprano, mezzo-soprano, bassoon and piano four-hands.

鈥淭he Body Electric鈥 was commissioned by Dr. Bartlett. 鈥淏eing of the Sea鈥 was commissioned by Professor Joe Dan Harper. 鈥淩iddle Me鈥 was commissioned by Ensemble Decipher as part of its 2021 SUNY Performance, Creativity and Curation Award. 鈥淏roken鈥 and 鈥淟OSS鈥 are part of an opera in-progress which won the Marion Creativity Award in 2021 and received generous support from the New York Foundation for the Arts 鈥淜eep NY State Creating鈥 Grants. 鈥淭housand Times a Thousand鈥 uses text written as part of the Guerrilla Opera Libretto Writing Workshop and is part of the 鈥淲omen鈥檚 Strength in Song鈥 project grant supported by New Music USA.

In addition to Ms. Sampson, performers include School of Music faculty members Mr. Harper, Sandra Leary, Dr. Andrew Seigel, Elizabeth Hanlon, Kieran Hanlon, Dr. Andrew Martin Smith and Jacob Swanson.

Student performers include Edward Spear, Michael Redmond, Erin Alexander, Matthew Slazik, Julienne Tsang, Edward Spear and Wolfgang Scheitinger. Ms. Bekauri received a M.M. in 2018 at SUNY Fredonia.
