The reaccreditation concludes a comprehensive review process initiated in 2019 by School of Music Director Emeritus Melvin Unger, which included a self-study, and an on-site review by NASM trained evaluators and their subsequent report.
SUNY Fredonia's reaccreditation includes the following School of Music degree programs:
School of Music Dean David Stringham noted, 鈥淥ur reaccreditation, which followed an intensive self-study process and a visit from two independent evaluators, revealed that Fredonia meets and exceeds national accreditation standards and guidelines maintained by nearly 650 member institutions.
While this review offered helpful feedback to strengthen our offerings, it also affirmed something we already knew: the quality 鈥 and affordability 鈥 of Fredonia鈥檚 comprehensive array of music degree programs offers individuals robust pathways toward a life and a career in, around, and through music.鈥
Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Judith Horowitz added, 鈥淔or nearly 150 years, music degree programs have been a cornerstone of SUNY Fredonia鈥檚 educational offerings, and our school remains a crown jewel in the SUNY system. This reaccreditation is a reflection on our dedicated faculty and staff, and of a visionary Dean working across all of our campus鈥檚 music units to ensure our students are being prepared for meaningful lives in our rapidly changing world. I could not be more proud of the world-class faculty at Fredonia, or of our programs.鈥
