The Fredonia Wind Ensemble will present its final concert in April, welcoming composer and Claudette Sorel visiting artist Valerie Coleman and celebrating the legacy of School of Music Professor and Assistant Director Barry Kilpatrick.

The concert, to be conducted by Dr. Paula Holcomb, will open with Ms. Coleman's "Fanfare for Uncommon Times," which was written in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, with Coleman providing background to the work.

鈥淪erenade,鈥 Op. 7 by Richard Strauss and "Funeral Music for Queen Mary" by Stephen Stucky and the "March" from the Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst will complete the first half of the concert.

The second half will include "Concerto for Wind Ensemble" a jazz-based work by Kevin Day featuring every section and various soloists from the ensemble.

Professor Kilpatrick has served the Fredonia School of Music for 45 years as professor of trombone and euphonium and also Assistant Director of the School of Music (see related article). School of Music musicians and alumni  will conclude the concert with Percy Grainger's 鈥淚rish Tune from County Derry鈥 and the 鈥淐hildren's March,鈥 two of Kilpatrick's favorite works for wind band.

A dinner in he and Cathe Kilpatrick鈥檚 honor will precede the concert and a post-concert reception will celebrate both Coleman and Kilpatrick.
