The SUNY Fredonia Wind Ensemble will present its opening concert of the spring semester featuring bassoonist and Professor Laura Koepke performing 鈥淒ead Elvis,鈥 a highly original work by Michael Daugherty, on Saturday, March 2.

Violinist and Assistant Professor Jessica Tong will also join the ensemble for the piece in the concert to be performed in Harry A. King Concert Hall at 8 p.m. It is free and open the public.

The concert has something for everyone, including Charles Ives' 鈥淰ariations in America;" Holst's 鈥淔irst Suite March,鈥 conducted by Graduate Assistant Devin Banning, a candidate for an M.M. in Music Performance, with a concentration in Conducting, from Getzville, NY; and 鈥淛avelin,鈥 a minimalist work by Michael Torke. The final selection, 鈥淎nd the Mountains Rising Nowhere,鈥 by Joseph Schwantner, showcases the ensemble鈥檚 six percussionists playing a total of 51 instruments.

鈥淭his is an eclectic concert performed by the outstanding SUNY Fredonia wind, brass and percussionists,鈥 said Professor Paula Holcomb, who is director of bands at Fredonia.
