The spirit of Christmas will take center stage at SUNY Fredonia鈥檚 Rockefeller Arts Center when the Kaleidoscope Family Series presents 鈥淭he Christmas That Almost Wasn鈥檛鈥 on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in Marvel Theatre. 聽This production by Child鈥檚 Play Touring Theatre of Chicago offers a peek at the hustle and bustle and near disasters of the Christmas season faced by Santa and his helpers.

Catch these close-call Christmas catastrophes in a series of three short stories written by children and brought to life by the actors of Child鈥檚 Play Touring Theatre. 聽鈥淭he Christmas That Almost Wasn鈥檛鈥 includes 鈥淒inky the Dancing Reindeer,鈥 鈥淗ow Santa Got Well鈥 and 鈥淪anta and the Witch.鈥

Founded in 1978, Child鈥檚 Play Touring Theatre was the first theatre company to realize the value of children鈥檚 own writing and perform exclusively stories and poems written by young authors. 聽Combining the important, imaginative writings of children with the craftsmanship of professional theatre artists and educators, the company created a unique stage where children鈥檚 voices can be heard, examined and treasured.

A nationally recognized not-for-profit organization, Child鈥檚 Play inspires young people to read, write and think creatively. 聽The goal at Child鈥檚 Play is to help children understand the value and significance that writing and reading has in their lives. Their performances and workshops offer a powerful teaching tool that strengthens and enhances the teaching and learning process.

The Christmas That Almost Wasn鈥檛 is approximately one hour in length and is recommended for ages 6 and up.

The Kaleidoscope Family Series is sponsored by The Observer as part of the Lake Shore Savings Season. The event sponsor is Star Media Group. 聽Tickets are available through the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center, by phone at 716-673-3501 or online at www.fredonia.edu/tickets.
