The Fredonia College Symphony Orchestra (CSO), under the direction of Dr. David Rudge, has been invited to perform at the opening concert of the 2017 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Winter Conference on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 8:15 p.m., at the Rochester (N.Y.) Convention Center.

The CSO, comprised of almost 100 students 鈥 nearly all of them majoring in some area of Music 鈥 will perform the Germany opera overture to 鈥淒er Fliegende Hollander,鈥 by Richard Wagner, and a suite from the Russian ballet 鈥淭he Firebird,鈥 by Igor Stravinsky.

Run-out concerts at two high schools, Rush-Henrietta and Webster-Thomas, are being planned for the orchestra en route to the conference.

Orchestra members will be given day passes for the conference, and many Music Education students will stay for the remainder of the two-day event.

The orchestra previously performed at the NYSSMA Winter Conference in 2009 at a 鈥淧rism鈥 concert with the Fredonia Wind Ensemble and Chorus.

鈥淲e were very well received at the time, and are very much looking forward to returning,鈥 Dr. Rudge said.
