听SUNY Fredonia听hosted a book reception for recently published faculty members:听

  • Dr. Linda Dorsten, associate professor of sociology, who is the author of 鈥淩esearch Methods and Society鈥 (Prentice Hall, 2005).听 The book is 鈥渄esigned to help students acquire basic skills in the methods of social science research,鈥 according to the publisher.听

  • Dr. Robert Marzec, associate professor of English, who is the editor of 鈥淎merican Regional Cultures: The Mid-Atlantic Region鈥 ( Greenwood Publishing, 2004).听 The book is described as an exhaustively-researched volume in 鈥淭he Greenwood Encyclopedia of American Regional Cultures鈥 that includes studies of Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.听

  • Dr. David Rankin, assistant professor of political science, for co-editing, 鈥淭ransformed by Crisis: The Presidency of George W. Bush and American Politics鈥 (Palgrave: Macmillan, 2004).听 Other editors were former SUNY Fredonia faculty members Jon Kraus (Professor of Political Science, Emeritus) and Kevin McMahon.听 鈥淭his book examines how words and deeds in a time of crisis will define the Bush presidency's place in American politics and history,鈥 the publisher writes.听 Dr. Rankin also contributed to the recently completed 鈥淲inning the White House in 2004: Region by Region, Vote by Vote鈥 (Palgrave: Macmillan, 2005), a look at the closely-contested presidential election of 2004.

  • Dr. Mary Beth Sievens, assistant professor of history, is the author of 鈥淪tray Wives: Marital Conflict in Early National New England鈥 ( New York : NYU Press, 2005).听 Her book is a detailed look at the politics of marriage in the formative years of the .听

  • Dr. John Staples, assistant professor of history, co-edited 鈥淣estor Makhno and the Eichenfeld Massacre: A Civil War Tragedy in a Ukrainian Mennonite Village .鈥澨 The book is an investigation into the 1919 murder of 136 Ukrainian Mennonites during a tumultuous period in Russian history.听

  • Dr. Ted Steinberg, Distinguished Teaching Professor of English, 鈥淭wentieth-Century Epic Novels鈥 (Newark: University of Delaware Press, 2005).听A consideration of recent epic novels, including works by Sholem Asch, Olivia Manning and others.

  • Dr. James Thomas Stevens, assistant professor of English, who wrote the narrative poem, 鈥(dis)Orient鈥 ( Ithaca : Palm Press, 2005).听 The poem studies man鈥檚 need to chart the unknown.听 Mr. Stevens also completed 鈥淢ohawk/Samoa: Transmigrations鈥 ( Oakland, Calif. : SubPress, 2005), a collaboration with Samoan poet Caroline Sinavaiana.
