Dr. AnahÍ Viladrich

Fredonia's Women’s Study Program will host Dr. AnahÍ Viladrich, a medical anthropologist and sociologist from Hunter College, who will speak about low-income and immigrant women’s access to health care as a human rights issue. This event will take place on March 27 at 2 p.m. in room S-14 of the Williams Center.  It is free and open to the public.

Dr. Viladrich is an associate professor in the School of Health Sciences' Urban Public Health Program at Hunter College, part of the City University of New York.  She is also the Director of its Immigration and Health Initiative (IAHI), which she founded in 2004. The program developed to accomplish expertise, research and teaching in the field of immigrant health. The group consists of professionals, scholars and students who are advocates for the many health issues affecting immigrants, and provide groundbreaking research regarding the health needs of immigrants and their children.

One of the most successful IAHI projects has been The Latinos Healers Project, a continuous ethnographic study on New York City’s Latino folk healer’s beliefs and practices.

The IAHI program was launched with the help of the Russo Gift and two Public Service Center (PSC) CUNY grants.
