In addition, Ms. Donzelli will be giving a performance on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m. in Rosh Recital Hall. Titled, 鈥淎n Evening of Italian Arias and Songs,鈥 she will be assisted by various School of Music faculty members.
Ms. Donzelli鈥檚 visit is sponsored by the Student Opera Theatre Association (S.O.T.A.) and is a further step in the continuing Lyric Arts International exchange program with Italy, where 11 SUNY Fredonia students and two faculty members toured, studied and performed this past May. Fredonia鈥檚 students were introduced to Ms. Donzelli during their 10-day performance trip this spring.
鈥淪tefania is a young, extremely talented, and brilliant lyric soprano,鈥 said Ben Pfiel, vice president of S.O.T.A. who studied with Donzelli at the Fermo Conservatory while in Italy. 鈥淲e were so lucky to meet with her while in Italy. She is very generous with her time and insisted on working with each of the 11 students in the group, inviting us to come back to the conservatory the very next day.鈥
The program for the recital includes the famous arias of Verdi and Rossini, including 鈥淎h, fors'e lui and Sempre libera,鈥 from La Traviata, and 鈥淯na voce poco fa,鈥 from The Barber of Seville, as well as famous songs of Rossini, 鈥淟a Tarantella鈥 and 鈥淟a Promessa.鈥 She will be joined by Fredonia Voice Faculty members Daniel Ihasz and Joe Dan Harper in duets from Donizetti's Don Pasquale. The recital will conclude with the buoyant "Libiamo", also from Verdi's La Traviata, in which Ms. Donzelli will be joined by students of the Opera Seminar class of the Fredonia School of Music.
鈥淪tefania is being very generous to our campus, not only holding private lessons with our students during her stay, but also performing with our Faculty despite the limited rehearsal time,鈥 said Julie Newell, Professor of Voice and Director of Lyric Arts International.
Ms. Donzelli is a lyric soprano who studied song with Patricia Brown of the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro, graduating with highest honors in 1990. She then went on to win prizes in the international arena including the first prize for the Monte di Treviso, Viottie di Vercelli, the Pavarotti of Philadelphia and Belli di Spoleto. Stefania then moved on to a career working with many international orchestral directors including Bychkov, Di Stefano, and Abbado, among others.
Ms. Donzelli has a repertoire of more than 500 vocal pieces of music in Italian, German, Frenchman and Spanish. She performs continually for musical associations in Italy and internationally. A particular highlight of her work is her upcoming tour with Andrea Bocelli, a tremendously popular Italian operatic pop tenor and a classical crossover singer who has also performed in operas.
