FREDONIA, N.Y. — January 6, 2009 — SUNY Fredonia has once again been ranked by Kiplinger Personal Finance magazine as one of the 100 best values in public higher education in the nation. The university was rated 77th for in-state residents, and 48th for out-of-state students.

For the current academic year (2008-09), SUNY Fredonia tuition and fees are $5,898 for in-state residents and $12,978 for out-of-state residents. These figures are well below the national average of $6,585 for in-state and $17,452 for out-of-state residents, according to the most recent 2008-09 data published by The College Board.

President Dennis L. Hefner noted, “SUNY Fredonia is proud to again be named by Kiplinger’s as a great educational value. Our terrific students, outstanding academic programs, exceptional graduation rate, and devoted faculty and staff combine to make Fredonia one of the best universities in the nation.”
Kiplinger’s determined its rankings based on data provided by more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities. Schools on the list were ranked according to academic quality, cost and financial aid. Kiplinger’s noted that the schools on the list “are noteworthy for their combination of top-flight academics and affordable costs.”

Using a scoring system in which academic quality carries more weight than costs (almost two-thirds of the total), Fredonia was one of 11 SUNY campuses named to the list.

In August 2008, U.S. News & World Report ranked SUNY Fredonia 12th among the top comprehensive public universities in the North (see article). Also in 2008, The Princeton Review once again recommended SUNY Fredonia as being among the “Best Northeastern Colleges.”
