The New Horizons Band of Western New York will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. The concert will be held in King Concert Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus in Fredonia. The concert is free.
Dr. Katherine Levy will conduct 鈥淧aint Your Wagon鈥 arranged by John Cacavas, 鈥淓l Pueblo鈥 by Johan Nijs, 鈥淒eep River鈥 arranged by Luther Henderson featuring tuba soloist Bud Lowery and 鈥淢ystery on Mena Mountain鈥 by Julie Giroux-West which is dedicated in memory of all the people who lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
John Krestic will conduct 鈥淎nthem for Winds and Percussion鈥 by Claude T. Smith. 鈥淕reat Themes from Great Italian Movies鈥 arranged by John Cacavas will be conducted by Donald Keddie and 鈥淭hem Basses鈥 by G. F. Huffine will be conducted by Pauline Emilson.
The New Horizons Brass Schleptet under the direction of John Krestic will perform the following songs: 鈥淩eflections of Ireland鈥 arranged by Lloyd Conley, 鈥淪ong Without Words鈥 arranged by John Krestic, 鈥淢agic Horn Tango鈥 by Bramwell Tovey with horn solo by Pauline Emilson, and 鈥淭he Last Tournament.鈥
Members of The New Horizons Band of Western New York live in the following communities: Angola, Brocton, Cassadaga, Derby, Dunkirk, Forestville, Fredonia, Lakewood, Lily Dale, Portland, Seridan, Silver Creek, Sinclairville, Strykersville, and Westfield.
The band, under the direction of Levy, was launched by the SUNY Fredonia School of Music eight years ago and is living proof that, when it comes to learning to play a musical instrument, it truly is 鈥渘ever too late.鈥 New Horizons Band members, who are at least 50 years old, learn to play a band instrument, return to playing a band instrument after a long absence, or continue to improve playing an instrument they have long enjoyed.
The New Horizons Band of Western New York is part of the Musical Journeys Program, a community outreach project offered in the SUNY Fredonia School of Music.
