Out of Context and the Proper Glue Percussion Duo perform music of Paul Coleman and David Plylar
Classical musicians come together from across the country to present music for the 鈥渨renchophone鈥, a percussion instrument invented by composer Paul Coleman consisting of 12 wrenches of different sizes. The Los Angeles-based ensemble 鈥淥ut of Context鈥 will join forces with the 鈥淧roper Glue Percussion Duo鈥 of New York City.
Composers Paul Coleman and David Plylar have developed a diverse program of works for mixed ensemble featuring instruments like the celesta, extended-range oboe, soprano voice and even a metal pipe. They will perform at SUNY Fredonia鈥檚 Juliet R. Rosch Recital Hall on Tuesday, April 27 at 8 p.m. As part of their joint-concert tour, the ensembles will share their combined years of new music expertise through a free lecture at SUNY Fredonia鈥檚 Mason Hall, room 1022 at 5 p.m.
All events will take place on Tuesday, April 27. Tickets for the evening performance are $10 for adults and $5 for students, available at the door. A free pre-concert lecture will begin at 7:15pm in room 1022. Both composers will also be on hand to talk about writing for the wrenchophone during a special free presentation at Valu Home Center hardware store at 12:00pm (10378 Bennett Road Rte. 60). These events are funded in part through Meet the Composer鈥檚 MetLife Creative Connections program and the Ethos New Music Society.
