The Blue Devil Hockey team won its fourth straight as it celebrated it鈥檚 sixth Pink the Rink game, with a 5-2 SUNYAC victory over the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs.

The Division III Men's Ice Hockey team suited up in their traditional pink jersey and socks  to promote cancer awareness, as it raised $10,000 for the American Cancer Society, bringing the six-year total to $34,000. Included in the proceeds was the sale of the Blue Devil鈥檚 game-worn pink jerseys.

In The Observer鈥檚 鈥淗ockey: Effort puts cancer on ice,鈥 Coach Jeff Meredith spoke about the event.

"This was probably our best ever," Fredonia State coach Jeff Meredith said. "There are so many amazing stories of people who have persevered, and of families who have worked through many difficult things. It was just a great success. It all comes together in one night, but it gets put together over the course of the year."

In 2010, following the passing of Fredonia State student Jessa Webber, a Fredonia State professor and cancer survivor, made an anonymous donation to the event, in the name of Webber.

Two years later, the Webber family continued Jessa鈥檚 legacy at Pink the Rink, as Barbara Webber sponsored this year鈥檚 donation in her daughter鈥檚 name.

Jessa鈥檚 family and friends were in attendance at Friday鈥檚 night game to receive the pink jersey in remembrance.
