How President Richard Nixon dramatically altered the Federal government鈥檚 Native American policy to support self-determination for Native American tribes and restoration of their culture will be examined Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. at 105 Fenton. Opening remarks will be given by聽Martin E. Seneca Jr, attorney and member of the Seneca Nation who is an expert in federal Indian Law.
The program, 鈥淣ixon and the American Indian: The Movement to Self-Determination,鈥 was produced by the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. White House and Administration officials who worked with Nixon discuss the leadership, legislation and litigation that was needed to implement the policy and what it meant to the American Indian.
The program is free and open to the public.
