The SUNY Fredonia Concert Band will give its final performance of the year on Monday, April 21 at 8 p.m.��in King Concert Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus.�� This event is free and open to the public.

According to tradition, the concert will open with the Star Spangled Banner, featuring student soloist Victoria Vargas.�� Under the direction of Raymond Stewart, the performance also includes an arrangement of Mahler’s First Symphony (mvmt. III), “Poema Alpestre” by Franco Cesarini, “Smokin” by Tom Scholz and Brad Delp (arranged by Michael McGough), and the Chicago Tribune March by W. Paris Chambers (arranged by Charles J. Roberts).��

Tubaist Raymond Stewart has established an active musical career in New York City since 1985 and now resides both there and in Fredonia, NY.��He is currently serving in his 6th year as Assistant Professor of Music at SUNY Fredonia College where he teaches the tuba studio, conducts Concert Band, has conducted the musical (BARNUM, Spring 2005) and has lectured in World Music.

He also serves as principal tuba of the American Composers Orchestra in NYC, the world’s only orchestra dedicated to the infinite variety of American music which performs regularly at Carnegie Hall.

As a member of the internationally acclaimed brass chamber music group Meridian Arts Ensemble (co-founded NYC in 1987), Mr. Stewart has appeared in 49 states , 25 countries, and 4 continents at countless music conservatories, performance venues and festivals, and has worked with numerous composers including Frank Zappa, Milton Babbitt, Elliott Carter, and Elliott Sharp.
