In Rome, N.Y., this month, the Jervis Library鈥檚 Children鈥檚 Room was transformed into a visual memory bank as it featured the work of emerging artist, Amy E. Barber, a senior art major at SUNY Fredonia. During the first two weeks of August, the library featured the 23 year-old's painting series, entitled 鈥淥ur Family Memoir."
Although many artists portray scenes from past experiences, 鈥淥ur Family Memoir鈥 is different in that Barber used video documentation to vividly recollect the pictures, sounds and emotions from an early childhood that she could not have clearly remembered without the help of a camcorder.
According to Barber, the imagery of her paintings comes from home videos recorded from Oct. 20, 1989 through Oct. 23, 1991.
