ANGEL® Learning, recognized innovator of course management software and services, awarded the SUNY Fredonia School of Music an ANGEL Impact Award for Excellence at the annual ANGEL User Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio recently. 

The award recognizes the SUNY Fredonia School of Music (SOM) for exemplary use of ANGEL Learning Management Suite (LMS) technology to improve education.

Incoming students’ varying knowledge made the SOM music theory course difficult to teach. For some students the work was too advanced, making the students uncomfortable and hindering the learning experience for more advanced students. SOM faculty created a music theory placement exam to address the problem, and now uses ANGEL technology to examine a large body of incoming students in an accurate and efficient manner and place students in the correct class based on placement exam results.
“The impact has been hugely positive,” said Paul Murphy, associate professor, SUNY Fredonia School of Music. “Not only has it solved problems, it has made us an example of ‘how to do it.’ I have received several calls from faculty in similar positions asking how we achieved this.”
