The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at SUNY Fredonia is organizing a one-day symposium focusing on language instruction on Saturday, March 16, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. in S204 A Williams Center. The title is 鈥淒reaming in Languages: Politics, Pedagogy, and Technology for Language Instruction.鈥
This event is open to students, faculty, and community members, including school administrators in the region. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $40 if registered by Feb. 28 and $50 if registered by March 10. Fees include registration, breakfast refreshments, lunch, materials, and one Continuing Education Unit.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Ana Celia Zentella, of CUNY and UC-San Diego, who will begin with 鈥淭he American Dream is not Dreamt in English Only鈥 at 9 a.m.
Workshops leader, Dr. Fernando Rubio of the University of Utah, will begin at 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on 鈥淗arnessing the Power of Technology in the Language Classroom鈥. This session will be a hands-on experience and attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop computer. Dr. Flavia Laviosa, of Wellesley College, will begin at 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. on 鈥淪peaking: From Silent to Loud鈥. A round table discussion will conclude the symposium at 3:30 p.m.
The Symposium is sponsored by SUNY鈥檚 鈥淚ITG鈥 Grant, the College of Arts and Sciences and Dean John Kijinski, and the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
