Two SUNY Fredonia professors -- Dr. Icial VanWesenbeeck, English, and Jonathan Chausovsky,聽Political Science -- will attend a summer Council for International Educational Exchange faculty聽development seminar as winners of SUNY Fredonia鈥檚 own International Faculty Development聽Seminar competition.

VanWesenbeeck will attend 鈥淢iddle Eastern Women: Tradition, Development, and Change鈥 in聽Jordan. The seminar will explore the dynamic roles of women in contemporary Arab society and聽focus on the challenges and achievements of Jordanian women leaders.聽The current director of the Women鈥檚 Studies Program, VanWesenbeeck teaches a course in Middle聽Eastern literature and has done extensive research in Middle Eastern literature and gender studies.

Chausovsky will attend 鈥淓conomic Development and Urban Transformation in China.鈥 Topics to聽be addressed at the seminar include current economic and political relations between the United聽States and China, domestic challenges of migration and displacement, cultural preservation and聽social transformation, and urban planning for sustainability.聽Chausovsky plans to use knowledge gained at the seminar to further his teaching in courses, such聽as Civil Liberties and Constitutional law, and in research on the development of the legal rights of
business corporations.聽

The many applications submitted to the annual competition were evaluated on the seminar鈥檚聽potential impact on the professor鈥檚 teaching and scholarship as well as benefits to SUNY Fredonia.
