Alexis Tunstall named March Student of the Month

Alexis Tunstall, of Forestville, N.Y., has been named Student of the Month for March by Residence Life.  Alexis was nominated for this award by Dr. Moj Seyedian, for strong academics and numerous contributions, highlighted by Alexis’ inclusion in Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society.  Alexis is a Junior with a Double major in Political Science and Accounting.  

Dr. Syedian praised Alexis’ abilities stating:  “Alexis is a brilliant student who has been on the Dean's List every semester she has been here.  I have been very impressed by her performance in my Economics class-- always prepared to participate in class discussions and defend her position on the economic issues. I should also report that based on my conversation with my colleagues, she behaves the same way in other classes.”

Alexis has been involved with the campus Mock Trial Club, a club that works to promote interest and understanding of the legal field, for 3 semesters. Currently, she is the organization's President. Last year, in addition to active participation in the routine mock trials, she organized a very successful Attorney Answers event in which County District Attorney, Jason Schmidt, had a Q&A with students.  Additionally, last semester she volunteered to work the voter registration table with the League of Women Voters to promote voter participation on campus. Alexis also works at the Sheridan VFW as a waitress as well as Barnes Greenhouses as a cashier.  Alexis is also an intern at Fredonia's VITA (volunteer income tax assistance program).

When asked about her favorite things about Fredonia, Alexis wrote ”The people! I have been so fortunate to meet so many amazing people who are not only passionate about their respective subjects but also the people around them. The professors truly go above and beyond for their students.”  When asked about her future plans she responded “I plan on attending law school after graduation as my ultimate goal is to practice law..”

The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community.
