In honor of Women鈥檚 Herstory Month, the Women鈥檚 Student Union (WSU) has planned a series of events to take place throughout March and early April. Events include multiple discussions and activities that are specific to women鈥檚 herstory.
- An 鈥淚nternational Women鈥檚 Day Table鈥 will be on Tuesday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in McEwen Hall. WSU will facilitate the table and provide information about International Women鈥檚 Day.
- On Wednesday, March 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. there will be a workshop hosted by the Chautauqua County League of Women Voters, "Be a part of the Solution with the League of Women Voters,鈥 in the Williams Center Room S204ABC. The group will be talking about enacting political change for women on campus and in the community. Voting registration will also be offered at the event.
- On Tuesday, March 15, Latina feminist, activist and blogger, Patricia Valoy will be giving a speech on gender and racial inequalities in science, technology, engineering and math fields from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Williams Center Room S204ABC. The talk will be followed by a panel of select women professors from STEM specific majors to discuss their experiences and perspectives.
- 鈥淗erstory Tivia鈥 will be offered Thursday, March 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. in McEwen Hall Room G24. Questions will be about feminism and other women herstory-related topics, and there will be prizes.
- WSU will host a Skype session with social media activist, Suraiya Ali, "Salty with Suraiya: Reality of Body Positivity in Social Media鈥 on Wednesday, March 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. in McEwen Room 209.
- On Wednesday, April 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. in McEwen Hall Room 209 will be the second annual "Gender and Social Change鈥 lecture with keynote speaker Leah Lokshmi,鈥 Ms. Lokshmi, a Toronto and Oakland-based poet, writer, educator and social activist. Her writing and performance art focuses on documenting the stories of queer and transgendered people of color, abuse survivors, mixed-race people and diasporic South Asians and Sri Lankans.
Women鈥檚 Herstory Month event will wrap up with a closing ceremony reception in the Williams Center Horizon Room on Wednesday, April 6 from 8 to 9 p.m., including dinner and several musical performances. The event is free to students, but a ticket is required to attend and are available from the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center.
